shut down problem

Hello. When I try to shut down my computer, I get a box
telling me that one of my programs, "message.app" is not
responding. I can easily close the program, and then the
computer shuts down, but it's a pain to take this extra
step each time I close down. Any advice on how to get rid
of this thing? Thanks
