You are probably just trying to be a nice and helpful person.
Nevertheless Anna, or anyone else, would have to extremely
foolish to accept an executable file from a stranger on a
newsgroup. There are many weird and malicious people around, and
it just isn't worth the risk.

I agree with you Ken, that is why I asked Anna to mail me before I sent her
the file, that way she would be able to trace me if I had sent her a
malicious file. As it happened I helped Anna out of her problem and received
her thanks. I hope that is what these newsgroups are for

Glad to hear Anna was helped, glad to hear there no problems, and glad =
to see that you weren't offended by my comment. It wasn't meant to be =
personal.=20

Certainly helping each other is what these newsgroups are for, but I =
still think that sending files to each other is *not* a good way to do =
it.

Your being traceable or not, if I were in Anna's shoes, I still wouldn't =
have run the risk. And I wouldn't want to make an offer like the one you =
made myself. Even if I were to send someone a genuine unmodified =
Microsoft file, it's always possible that an unrelated problem could =
crop up soon after installation; I wouldn't want anyone thinking even =
remotely "I wonder if it was that file that no-good Ken Blake sent me."

The best way to make a file available to someone is to point him or her =
to a reputable web site where it can be found.
