View Full Version : Need Driver Software

I've just bought my computer and I can't get the CD-ROM
to work. I can't even run the CD that came with the
Computer. My computer is a Compaq Presario 7500 with
Windows XP (home edition). Where can I find a down
loadable Driver Software for the CD-ROM Hardware?
I've checked the MY COMPUTER Program and CD-ROM is not
even listed. All that is showing is: Presario (C:);
Presario_RP(D:) and 3 1/2 Floppy(A:). When I opened
Presario_RP(D:), it showed a padlock icon (recovery).
A CD-ROM should had been already installed... right?
What do I have to do to get this software? The Floppy
Drive is working fine... it's the CD drive that's not
working.
Can you help me? What can I do? I shouldn't have to buy
a software for this hardware, it should had already been
installed.
Please direct me to the right place to solve this problem.
Thanks!

You are right!

We may be able to help a little, but the people who sold you the computer
are the ones you really should be talking to first.
My guess is that everything is there and installed properly, but
instructions for using it may have been missing or unclear. Have you
searched the manual and any other documentation that came with the computer?

Hi Deborah,
Is this a new computer? If so, I would take it back to wherever you
purchased it, or if you bought it on-line/mail-order, I would call their
customer support.
If it's not a new computer and if it were mine, one of the first things I
would do is to go into "device manager" and see if your CD-ROM shows up
there; if it does, make sure that it isn't disabled for some reason, and
also check to see if it says that it's working properly. Sometimes a device
driver can become corrupted and one way to fix it (this doesn't always work)
is to remove the device (not physically, just from the device list), reboot
and let Windows find it again, then it should automatically reinstall the
driver from the Windows driver-base.
Hope this helps!

Your computer came with a warranty did it not? May I suggest you avail
yourself of it?
