I have set up a new computer with SATA II HD but when installing XP Pro it
only recognizes 130 of the 500 GB on the drive. Can anyone help as to why it
does not see the total volume?

Its likely you are using an early pre sp1 version of winxp

Create a slipstreamed installation containg latest sp level

You are likely using an older version of XP without SP1 or SP2 integrated.
Either use a version of XP that has SP2 already integrated or slipstream SP2
using your existing CD. Slipstream instructions here

Go to Windows Update and install SP2.
