I copied this from IE6 help , I haven't tried the procedure in Win XP, but i
doubt it's that different to IE6 with win98, which worked fine.
If you encounter problems that you cannot resolve, it is often beneficial to
uninstall Internet Explorer and then reinstall it. This procedure replaces
files that might have been damaged. If you are using Windows XP, click
Start, click Control Panel, and then click Add or Remove Programs.
a.. If you upgraded to Internet Explorer 6, when you uninstall Internet
Explorer 6, you will go back to the version of Internet Explorer that was on
your computer before you upgraded.

Try reinstalling ie6.
First, go here: http://tinyurl.com/iv24

Specialt101,
First off, those are not Windows files (either of them). A search on them
comes up empty except for a few vague references. What I think may have
happened: Some spyware/adware was installed on your system, you ran
something to clean this up (like Adaware), but it left the references
behind.
Suggest you reinstall IE6, start/run this command:
rundll32.exe setupapi,InstallHinfSection DefaultInstall 132
%windir%\Inf\ie.inf
