Has anyone experienced problems with audio files in Windows? I have tried
using ITunes, as well as Windows Media Player. Songs will sometimes pause /
slow-down shortly… all of a sudden. Is this because of my computer (RAM =
1GB with 1.7 Ghz CPU) ???

I seriously doubt it! Something else is apparently wrong on your system.
But this isn't much to go on.

Are the files on your computer, or are they coming in over your
internet connection? If the latter, it's almost certainly that your
connection isn't fast enough.

If you are asking whether the computer might not be good enough or
powerful enough to play them, no, that's not the problem.

I download MP3 files from Internet; I then run them locally. I get files
using LimeWire. My guess, looking into my problem, is that the creator of
my MP3 files has doctored them in some way. d'Ya think?

Do you have evidence that these are "doctored: files?

What happens when you play other MP3s (for instance, MP3s of tracks
ripped from CDs you own)?

How about trying Winamp or Winamp Classic? See:
