I have XP Pro, SR 2 and all updates; using Windows Defender, Avast, & Ad
Aware - run latter daily, and maintain updates. plenty of space, no defrag
needed, etc.

Some strange changes have occurred in my system, and one adaptive program
(that is up to date) now won't open (ZoomText v.9) with only a window
stating it isn't supported by this version of Windows - iow less than W 98!

The arrangement of my OE 6 layout/toolbars, et al were altered today, and
other programs changed, including layouts pulling up OE 6, etc. I can't
easily check for the status of other programs, or in Control Panel w/o
adaptive software. I have Kurzweil 1000 but haven't used it for a windows
program reader - only scanning, editing, and converting docs.

What can be happening? thank you.

Today, I had a warning window pop up when I started up, I'm a blind user, so my adaptive programs are out, now. But, I was able to obtain an error code (using an electronic hand-held viewer), BCCode: 1000008e BCP1: C0000005 BCP2: BF8CD283 BCP3: EDD26A20
BCP4:00000000 OSVer: 5_1_2600 SP:2_0 Product: 256_1

and

A message appears on a blue screen with error code information (for example: 0x0000001E, KMODE_EXCEPTION_NOT_HANDLED)

Additional steps for you to take
Please continue to send problem reports so analysts at Microsoft can study and try to correct the problem as quickly as possible

but I never received a blue screen at start up, and then it sent me to this URL http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=322205

It directed me then to Step 5, removed all programs, then a restart and this code came up: Code 0x800106ba. I have someone now 'looking' for me, and we checked "hide all MS programs" and one left was Sound Max, and Defender (both "unknown"). Any suggestions, now?

As an FYI, I have limited items on Start Up, because I prefer to implement programs by clicking on them, so they're not running in the background, and some, like Adobe and Real Player did, going to the Internet w/o my knowledge. I use FoxIt now, instead of any Adobe products.

thank you.
