View Full Version : Removing internet debris

While viewing a picture with Windows picture and fax viewer, I was exploring
the function of the different buttons at the bottom of the viewer. When I
clicked the button for "start slide show", I got a long series of images,
banners, buttons, etc. from internet browsing. I'd like to remove that stuff
from my system, but can't figure out how to do it. Any suggestions?

Thanks.

Try emptying your Temporary Internet Files folder. This is where the items
like you describe are stored until removed.

And if you can't find that, go to -
Windows Explorer / Documents and Settings / <your user name folder > / Local
Settings.
While you're at it, clean out the Temp folder above it.

And do (in IE) Tools > Internet Options > Clear History, Delete Files, and
Delete Cookies

These fixes should solve your problems...

Thanks for your suggestions. Actually, none of that seemed to help, but I'll
tell you how I have stopped this problem for now, anyway and maybe someone
can help me understand this better.

I got several pictures as attachments to email from a friend. I couldn't
immediately figure out how to send the attachments to "my pictures," so I
sent the entire emails. Then when I opened the emails and the attachments, I
got the slideshow with all the internet images(these were images I
recognized, not stuff that came from my friend). Last night, after I tried
your suggestions, some of which I had tried before, I decided to copy the
attachments to my desktop, then delete the emails(I later emptied the
recycle bin too) . After that I copied the attachments back into "my
pictures", and now the slideshow shows only pictures I want. So, I've
severed the link to the internet images, but I suspect they're lurking
somewhere and I wonder if they'll crop up somewhere else sometime. What do
you think?

Next time you recreive pictures you want to save, right click on the picture
and select "Save picture as..." in the resulting menu. This gets a typical
"Save as" dialog box with provision for filename and folder to save it in.

It would appear that you fixed the problem yourself. No guarantees but I
doubt that the trash will reappear after this.

To be 101% sure (for your own peace of mind), download Agent Ransack & do a
full drive search for .jpg & .bmp
You'll soon see where they're all located.

p.s. Then keep Agent Ransack as your main search engine.
