View Full Version : Start Menu Problem

I run XP Home Edition with 4 users sharing the machine which is about 4 years
old.
For one of the accounts the Start menu has become inoperable, all Pinned
Items and Most Frequently Used Programmes have dissappeared. If a programme
is selected, including Control Panel, then the message "Windows cannot access
the specified device, path or file. You may not have appropriate permissions
to access the item." appears. This happens for virually everything on this
account. All other accounts work fine. Hunting around in the help systems
has been fruitless, if anyone can advise I would be grateful.

Hi Peter,
You may experiencing a profile corruption, try to create a new profile (as
Admin) and copy the data from one of these profile to the new and test to see
if it will work.
If it did work then you know it is a profile corruption, after making sure
you copied all the Data from the Old Profile to the new one, you can safely
delete the old corrupted one, the same with other account.
