View Full Version : How to mark/select 2 files from 2 different (!!!) dirs ?

Assume I put a shortcut to a program on my desktop.
This program is able to receive 2 files as parameter e.g.

myprogam.exe filename1 filename2

Just think of a diff viewer as example.

Ok. If now the two files are located in the SAME directory I can mark both
and drag them onto the program shortcut and everything works fine.

But what if the files are in different directories ?

If I mark the first file in WinExplorer, then switch to the second directory
and mark the second file then the previous marking of the first file is lost.

Ok, I could copy the second file to the first directory in order to use multi-marking
but this is rather unconvenient.

How else can I mark 2 files in two different directories?

I think you're going to find it impossible. Users and not supposed to
be intelligent, and windows was written to dumb down a computer for the
idiots.
A simple solution would be to just copy one file to the 2nd folder. Now
they are in the same folder. I do the same thing, and have not found
a solution. I did figure out how to range files and make 2 ranges in
the same dir using the control key along with shift and mouse clicks.
But that's the most advanced.

So, Open three Explorer windows, to the three files. Drop the program on the
run line, type a space, drop the first argument file, put a space, drop the
third file, hit enter.

add the path to each file name manually.
