There is not much you can do. Adaptec - Easy CD Creator doe not work in XP. It was written for
Windows 98.
If you can't stand ROXIO, there are other brand CD Burning Software.

Yeah it does, if you have the right version. I've got it installed here.

Adaptec spun-off its CD software group as Roxio. Now, Adaptec is mostly
into hardware, like SCSI and RAID controller cards.

Roxio turned into Napster (the legal version) and sold its CD/DVD software
group to Sonic.

The latest version of Easy Media Creator is 10, and is still available under
the Roxio name.

For XP you need a minimum of version 6 plus patches, and that combination
(6+patches) did not work well for me. Version 7 was designed for XP, and
works nicely. I assume that version 8, 9, and 10 also work OK with XP.

Personally, I saw little difference in feel between the old Adaptec (version
4, as I recall) and the Roxio version 7. Of course, version 7 has more
options, and runs faster, but the speed is more likely due to upgrading the
hardware from a 450 Mhz pentium II to a 2.5 GHz Pentium 4, more RAM, faster
disk, and a 48X CD writer.

The most common alternative to Roxio/Sonic is Nero. Nero often offers a
free trial download, so you can try it before buying. Just, be sure to
completely uninstall all traces of Easy CD Creator, before installing Nero.

There are also a growing number of free CD-writing programs. One I like,
since it is self-contained (does not install, nor conflict with Easy Media
Creator), is DeepBurner. If you want to convert media files to DVDs, then
try DVDFlick. It installs, but does not conflict with Easy Media Creator.

http://www.deepburner.com/ go to the download pafe and look for the free,
portable version

BTW, I'm using the older version, 5.3.5.10 (there was an update patch on
their site, as I recall), and actually prefer it to the newer versions.

Are you sure you have the Adaptec version or the Roxio Version. I think Adaptec stopped with
version 4.x.
Roxio took it over at version 5.x. I prefer the Roxio 5.x versions over the new ones and I still
use it on my main XP machine as well. But I could not install it on a Shop Machine with XP Pro.
Just got the message that this version is not applicable to this Windows Version.

Yeah, it says Roxio. I think this was around that "transition time".
Even though it says "Roxio" on the interface, the C:\Program Files are all
under Adaptec. So I'd say it's a bit of a hybrid. :-)
