svchost.exe consumes increasingly more CPU and Memory after computer is left
on for more than ~ 5 hours. svchost.exe consumes about .7% of CPU within
first 1-2 hours after startup and increases to >10% after 5-10 hours. If the
computer is left on for long enough, I get “The Remote Procedure Call (RPC)
service terminated unexpectedly” and Windows will automatically reboot.

In Task Manager, svchost.exe (owned by: NETWORK SERVICE) starts with ~4k
handles and increases to 40k overnight (12k in non-paged pool, 379k in paged
pool). In Process Explorer the only thing that this instance of svchost.exe
controls is RpcSs service (Remote Procedure Call - RPC). I ran PoolMon 15
min after starting and about 12 hours later and took screens of paged and
non-paged usage. The interesting tags are listed below. I tried searching
for some of these tags and didn’t find much information. The increased CPU
and memory usage does not affect normal computer usage but is detrimental
when gaming as FPS reduces noticeably and Ping increases 10x. I also have
not found an effective way to search for XP SP2 hotfixes. I have also posted
my machine specs below. Let me know if you need any additional information.

Thanks for your time,
