View Full Version : Norton System Works & XP

I have used Norton System Works since Windows 98. I recently upgraded to
XP. I say up graded, but I totally cleared and reformatted my drive to NTFS
format and did a complete new install. Anyway. I use the disk optimization
monitor in System Doctor to watch how "fragmented" the drive is. Since
going to XP it seems fragmentation occurs unbelievably fast! I can run
speed disk, and the next day be 25% fragged out. This has never happened,
it does it on both my hard drives. I would seemingly have to run Speed Disk
every other day to keep up! Is this a bug in XP or System Works? or is it
really that prone to disk fragmentation? Any ideas would be great. Thanks.

Is there any particular reason not to run SpeedDisk in XP
with NTFS? I've been running it for quite some time now
and haven't had any issues.

Thanks,
Ash

Never? I have not seen any adverse affects, other than it does not last 24
hours. Please explain further.

System Doctor and XP don't get along to well. I have long since
disabled it. Once a month I use Speed disk and analyze my disks and
partitions. I don't do much unless there is 25-30 percent of
fragmenting. With the higher speed of disks and the large sizes,
defrag is not the problem it once was, in fact some people state that
defrag is a waste of time. I don't believe that, but the point being
that it is not a critical issue.

Speed disk will never get the defrag down to 0 percent.

I have used Norton since Peter Norton designed it and put it on the
market.

You do not need to defragment Windows XP like you did in 9x.

Plus, I would use Windows XP Defrag, Norton has screwed things up for me. I
basically only use Norton Anti-Virus.
