View Full Version : Monitor screen shaking

I have WinXP SP3 on one machine and a 13" Proview monitor. When I boot it up
in the morning and the manufacturer's logo appears, the monitor screen (the
image) starts shaking, expanding and contracting. It lasts for a few seconds
before the image stabilizes and everything becomes normal. If I reboot, no
shaking at all. My guess is that in a morning cold monitor there is
something that causes this sort of distortions, while in the warm monitor
everything is OK.

May someone please tell me what's going on? How serious this is? Is this
monitor dying? Is there a way to fix it?

Your suggestions will be appreciated.

Try turning on the monitor about a 60 seconds before you turn on the PC,
does the shaking still happen?

I warmed it up for several minutes, it reduced the shaking.

Very old! But works fine, except for shaking at boot (started only
recently!)

Well Ok. It will eventually die as all monitors will. There is no point in
trying to fix it. Live with it.

ilyaz,
Have you gone to the PC's Video card manufacturer, and check if there is a
driver update for this card? Try installing it and see if it lessens the
shaking at boot up. Also you might also be limited to 800x600 or 1024x768
resolution for this monitor, because of its age, even though the card will
give you options to use higher resolutions.

As previous mention your monitor may be on its last leg. So keep an eye out
for monitor sales coming up, especially during the "Back to School" and
"Christmas Sale" Days.

Driver's aren't the issue as the driver's aren't loaded at the point when
the "shaking " occurs.

Guys, thank you all for your suggestions. I guess, I'll switch to another
monitor sitting for a while in a closet... It's old too, but it's 15" and
suppose to be in a good shape...
Regards,
Ilya
