I've posted this problem before - It's still unresolved. here's an update.

I put my WindowsXP Home desktop into Standby. It dutifully obeys. Then
anywhere from a few moments to ten or fifteen minutes it awakens.

I have an optical mouse, and somewhere, I no longer remember where (but I'd
love a clue), I instructed Windows not to awaken the computer with mouse
motion. Normally I have to press a key such as the Shift key.

So what is waking it up? I assume there's some sort of background process
going on.

Suggestions welcome

Go into BIOS and turn off 'Wake on LAN'

I had something similar happen too me but the computer would start up on its
own when it was turned off. I turned it off using the windows shut down not
a power switch. It seems my power supply had gotten a little strange. The
only way I discovered it was the power suppy was because after I shut down
by turning off the switch it took 5 minutes with the power restored to the
computer for it to even attempt to boot up.
