Shut Down Problems

My XP is a year old and has been running fine. However,
it just began hanging when shutting down and the only way
to reboot is to unplug and start over. I just removed a
Trojan Horse virus and removed the registry entry that
Norton directed me to remove to clear the problem. Can
anybody help?
