Windows Media Encoder 9.00.00.2680 problem. to slow

I am using Windows Media Encoder 9 to Encode MPG files to WMV
Streaming file. WHen I select a large file <40 mb> it take a long time
to let me do anything.DOes anyone know anything about this?
