I want to update the patch that Microsoft sent me warning
of the newest virus. However on the download page, it
asks what version XP you have - 32 bit or 64 bit. I have
no idea - I know that it is XP 5.1. Can someone tell me
how to find out how many bits I have?
Thanks,

If you have Windows XP Home it's 32bit
If it's XP Pro..Right click on My Computer and select Properties. If you
see 64-bit in there anywhere u have 64 it it does not say 64 then u have 32.

First of all, note that there is a 64-bit version only of XP
Professional, not of Home.
Second, anybody who has to ask the question is running the 32-bit
version. The 64-bit version requires special hardware. It and the
hardware have come down in price, but are still substantially
more expensive than the standard consumer PCs you see around.
Very few home users are using it.

Hi Kath --
The 64 bit ed of windows requires very expensive, special hardware (itanium
processor, etc). Since the price of this is much higher than the 32 bit
edition, home users usually go for the 32 bit product.
If you have the 64 bit edition, you don't have to ask :-)
You most likely have the 32 bit edition, which most home users have.
I hope this cleared up your situation!

If you are going to insist on sending people to the internet sites for
answers, give the CORRECT ONE !!! "For assistance with this, and all other
FAQs, please refer to the FIRST link in my signature ." NOT! First link
sends you to Groups.Google.com . The THIRD site is your FAQ. If you insist
on not giving direct help, then don't post. Others have already done so,
BTW.
