Maxtor DiamondMax Plus D740X-6L - Service Pack 1 stops it cold !

I have the above drive - a new 80GB Maxtor DiamondMax Plus
D740X-6L, and I can install WindowsXP on it just fine.
However, when I install Service Pack 1, the boot-up
process takes 10-20 minutes from POST to login screen.
Maxtor's website points this problem towards Windows -
Microsoft's Knowledge Base points this problem back at
Maxtor. Has anybody heard about this, and if so, what the
H*$! is going on here. It doesn't make any sense, and I
do my homework extensively. Even my wife and Dad can't
find it, and they've been in the business for years
each !

Try directly emailing both the Microsoft Technical Support and the Maxator
Support.

You probably have an "extreme" or "odd" case scenario that isn't common
enough to be covered extensivly in the FAQs.

That may be more effective (and direct) than asking around in newsgroups,
though there may be people in this group that know the answer, because they
aren't always online.
