I bought a used computer with XP and a lot of M$ bloat that I'd like
to uninstall.
Tried to uninstall office 2000 using add/remove programs.
"The feature you are trying to use is on a CD-rom...
insert the "*" disk...

I don't have the disk!!!!
I deleted the office2K directories, but on every reboot, it tries
to reinstall itself GRRRR!!!!

Tried to uninstall Digital Image Pro9. You guessed it:
"The feature you are trying to use is on a CD-rom...
insert the "*" disk...

And there are a bunch more M$ programs needing removal.

How do I uninstall all this stuff??

No, I can't reinstall windows, cause I don't have that disk either
and the COA # that's on the case won't work with any XP disks I have.

How do I get rid of the unwanted M$ stuff and keep XP???

Revo Uninstaller.
http://www.revouninstaller.com/
Run Revo & just bypass the genuine MS uninstaller and let Revo get to work,
it will wipe all the MS Office stuff from the folders & the registry.

If the PC is working (or will be when you fix the deleted programs) you
should spend some time now when there is no emergency to find
replacement CD's for XP. Whomever sold you the PC should have given
you all that with it. By rights, they are yours. OEM software with
those stickers is a license that follows the PC, not the purchaser of
the goods (old user).

You can use the following tool from Microsoft. For Office 2000 you most probably need the install CD's

Normal.

Still normal, unfortunately.

Just a note: If you do not have any way to restore or recover windows,
you do not really have an operating system. Even if you get it going,
it wont' stay going, plus you will be operating a pirated version of
windows which you prlbably cannot activate again when you need to. And
you will need to. You won't be able to get some of hte updates, either.
Whoever sold you the computer had to provide you with the information
and CDs for the above mentioned things. If they did not, then you did
not purchase any of the software and are headed for nothing but
headaches.

I think it's bootdisk.com where you could download a bootable CD set.
Then you could boot from that and reformat the drives, then install
licensed software onto them. Before doing that though, you should make
sure the restore info isn't simply in a hidden partition on the hard
drive. Talk to where you bought the machine from. It's entirely
possible you were not sold any legal software or that it was just an
oversight. Never hurts to at least ask.

You live in a world more perfect than mine.
When buying a $2 computer at a garage sale, most people I know wouldn't
consider missing CD's a deal breaker. They'd ask for help on the
internet. ;-)

Most vendors don't supply CD's anyway.

You can now see how important it is to have the installation disk.

If you have the I386 folder on your hard drive, you may be able to
create your own installation disk. Of course, you need a license and
product key, also. See "How to Create a Bootable Windows XP Setup Disk
on a Preinstalled / Preloaded Windows System":
