View Full Version : Windows XP Local Users and Groups is empty

November 6th 08, 02:13 PM
I have XP Pro. When I go into the MMC console and click on Local
Users and Groups I have a problem.

The Users folder shows the users like Administrator, ASPNEt, etc.
However the Groups folder is empty. That should show Administrators,
Backup Operators, Guests, Power Users etc. These names don't show
up. When I click add it says it can't because it says "The Specified
Local Group already exists." However the screen doesn't show it.
When I go the Net Localgroup from the CMD prompt those built in names
show up. Why doesn't it show up in the MMC.

I have been banging my head with this for over a week and need some
help.

Thanks

A

Hi,

I have an edit on line 406 that replaces both. Beings that isn't your
issue, go to Start/Run and type in: mmc

Once there go to File/Options/Console Mode. You want Author mode.

Author Mode: Grants users full access to all MMC functionality, including
the ability to add or remove snap-ins, create new windows, tasks and view
all portions of the console tree.

Hope this helps and good luck!
