View Full Version : Create movie from .tmp file?

I captured about 30 minutes of video using the Capture Video feature. I
pressed Stop Capture, then Finish to render the video. During this process my
computer froze and I had to restart. There are two .tmp files in my capture
folder that, I have read, are the raw video files for my capture. How can I
either get Movie Maker to render these files into .wmv files or even just be
able to get them to play at all? I tried renaming them to .dv and .wmv files
and opening them with various players but nothing worked.

Any help is greatly appreciated. Thank you!

I didn't mention that I was using Windows Movie Maker to capture the video
also.

Thanks!

Hello markm96160, my name is Rick and I work with the Windows Outreach Team,
and I have read about your trouble with Windows Movie Maker. When your
computer froze it created two .tmp files, that it left as temporary files on
your hard drive. It is possible that they are recoverable but it is not
likely. In most cases those files will have been “corrupted” and may not be
recovered. You can try moving those files to a new folder and try importing
them into WMM again. If that doesn’t work, you may have to re-capture those
files.
I am including a link to some helpful WMM resources where you might be able
to find out more.
