I have been trying to find a solution for this problem and have found
nothing. Movie Maker gives me the standard "encountered a problem..." window
and shuts down etc. as soon as I start it up. I sent the report and was
directed here. I could not find my answer, so... If anyone can help me?
Please do. Thanks.

You fail to mention your OS...if you are
running Vista...disregard the following
info about IE7.

Some WinXP users have reported problems
after installing IE7. If this applies to your
situation ...uninstalling IE7 may be worth
a try.

(927177) How to uninstall Internet Explorer 7
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/927177/en-us

I've also seen a report that disabling the
ffdshow codec could be the fix. To accomplish
this...open Movie Maker and go to...Tools /
Options / Compatibility tab...Uncheck...
ffdshow / OK.

===
You can disable ffdshow by going to...Start / Run
and enter the following command::

regsvr32.exe /u "C:\Program Files\ffdshow\ffdshow.ax"

After running that command, the regular
DivX/XviD codecs will be used instead of ffdshow.
You can enable ffdshow again with this command:

regsvr32.exe "C:\Program Files\ffdshow\ffdshow.ax"

Load libraryWell for one I posted in Windows XP newsgroups so...that should
tell you right there what OS I am using. I installed the Movie maker software
well after IE was installed. I originally did not have movie maker so I
downloaded it from c/net. So that eliminated that problem. Next, I attempted
to disable the ffdshow codec and recieved this mesage: loadlibrary....
message. So that is also not the problem as well seeing as it is not in the
library. I checked on the links you also provided and they were all for
Vista. next?

Sorry...I was just trying to assist you.

Movie Maker is included as a component
of Windows XP...so...no, you did not install
it after IE7. You probably had Movie Maker
2.1 and didn't know how to launch it so you
downloaded and installed the earlier 2.0
version.

No...the links I posted are not just for Vista.

Good luck solving your problems.

O.k. why all of a sudden the change in attitude? I just informed you of what
happened? I have tried the 'other' links which happen to be the same thing
twice on each link. And I tried the ProgramFiles Intervideo search on my PC
and I do not have that file on my PC. So, if what you say is correct and I
have installed WMM 2.0 and had 2.1 how do I get 2.1 back?

see the Setup Movie Maker > MM2.1 page of my website. One of the sections on
it is about reinstalling it.

O.k. now what? That did not work either. I tried to reinstall it per your
directions. Same message. I also added the DLL's as per your site as well,
same message. I tried to uninstall it completely and try to re-install it and
it states program is in use. Shut down PC and restarted it and still got the
same message about being in use when I have no programs running whatsoever. I
am not a happy camper here!
