What is Windows Scanner????

You need to search newsgroups and look for info on how to fix the
upper/lower filters.

On Microsoft website search windows scanner. Runs systems check, tuneup and
a couple of other update checks. It seems to be a good items to run
periodically to ensure my system clean. This is the first time it has
disabled my hardware. just trying to get the drives back.

Did you try System Restore yet?

Start
Programs
Accessories
System Tools
System Restore

Warning all updates and programs that you have installed since the date you
went back to will be gone. Your data will be safe though.

The first thing to establish is if you're talking about the OneCare Live
Safety Scanner
http://onecare.live.com/site/en-us/default.htm

The second thing could be to find out if you ran the Clean-up Registry
Cleaner function or the Full Service Scan which includes a registry cleaning,
if that's the windows scanner you're referring to. Did you loose the DVD &
CD-RW immediately after that? If so, you might consider backing out any
registry changes:
