View Full Version : Reinstall Error

Jack Tyler[_2_]

I'm trying to reinstall XP Pro into my Socket A computer.
I get to install the Motherboard Drivers from the floppy OK.
Then when It starts to install XP the blues screen of death appears.

I sent my Video Card in to be repaired,, and the PC was still doing a Boot
Loop (get to the windows screen and reboot)
So I tryed to reinstall XP and I get the crash.
Here is a picture of the crash. I would hate to buy a new Desktop...
Thanks Guys & Gals

Did you allow your disk to be formatted before starting the installation?

It sounds like your filesystem is corrupt. See if this helps.

So should I connect the HD to my laptop and reformat it before I try to
install XP.
I have a external HD Case to hook to my laptop, so how do I reformat the
drive while It's hooked to my Vista Laptop.?

You don't need to. Boot from the XP install disk. Press F6 to install the
drivers from the floppy drive when prompted. You'll see this prompt right
after "press any key to boot from CD" Follow the install routine, delete the
partition, create a new one, then format NTFS. Then proceed with the install.
If the machine bluescreens after pressing F6 for the floppy drivers, Then the
drivers are bad or the wrong ones, or there is a hardware problem somewhere
with the mainboard. You might be buying that new computer!

You said this is a "Socket A" mainboard. This is an older system with an AMD
Athlon processor, correct? Older mainbords usually don't have SATA hard
drives. If yours has a PATA hard drive, you don't install any drivers before
the operating system. There shouldn't even be a floppy disk of drivers if
there are no SATA ports on the board. If you have a PATA or IDE hard drive,
try the install again without pressing F6 and don't use the floppy disk.

Well Mark this is a top of the line AMD XP motherboard. Gigabyte GA-7NNXP it
comes with 2 IDE and 2 IDE / 2 SATA Raid ports.
If there is not a way to repair this than I'll just upgrade the whole system
and use my laptop till i'm done building a new system.

Hello Jack

Stop 024

A problem occurred within NTFS.SYS, the driver file that allows the system to read
and write to NTFS file system drives. There may be a physical problem with the disk,
or an Interrupt Request Packet (IRP) may be corrupted. Other common causes include
heavy hard drive fragmentation, heavy file I/O, problems with some types of
drive-mirroring software, or some antivirus software. I suggest running ChkDsk or
ScanDisk as a first step; then disable all file system filters such as virus
scanners, firewall software, or backup utilities. Check the file properties of
NTFS.SYS to ensure it matches the current OS or SP version. Update all disk, tape
backup, CD-ROM, or removable device drivers to the most current versions

I take it then that you ARE using a SATA hard drive. The floppy disk may be
bad. Download new SATA drivers from Gigabyte's website and put them on a
fresh floppy disk and try again. Also, the hard drive may be bad. Put the
drive in your external USB enclosure and connect it to the laptop and see if
you can read the contents of the drive. If you can't or the laptop
bluescreens, then the drive is probably bad. You can go to the website of the
hard drive maker and download their drive testing utilities, burn to CD and
see if the drive passes the test. If not, replace it. If you can read the
drive while attached to the laptop, you can format it with Windows Disk
Management. The hard drive maker also has formatting utilities, you may want
to try using them while the drive is still attached to the Gigabyte board.
