View Full Version : Deny Access to Removable Devices using GPEDIT.MSC XP Pro

Recently, I set up an XP Pro system. During the initial setup, trial, etc phase, I had denied access to removable devices using the Group Policy Editor.

I no longer have access to an XP Pro system and am presently using Win7 Beta.

The location of certain Group Policy features were changed between XP and Vista and isn't Win7 nothing more than Vista SE (for those of you who remember win98 SE).

Could someone out there with an XP Pro system go drilling down the Group Policy settings tree in the "Computer Configuration" tree and tell me where the settings are for denying access to removable devices in general also for CD/DVDs specifically?

I will then relay the info to the non-techie whose laptop I setup and then forgot to undo these settings before shipping the unit. This non-techie would be overwhelmed if I were to ask that the entire Computer Configuration branch be searched for likely suspects.

Thanks,
Karl

Oh yes, if I should have posted this in another "community", please inform and I'll do such.

taurarian,

The article is excellent, however, the instructions are appropriate for 2008 server and Vista systems. The system in question is xp pro sp3.

thanks, karl
