View Full Version : PLUG-IN in E-MAILS

I am just wondering if there is a way to insert plug-ins like flash movies
in
Rich text(HTML) e-mails.
My friend explained about its difficulties, said it is now impossible in OE.
Can we put the source of plug-in (like a swf file) in a web site, then a
link from that
inside the e-mail to view the movie beside the messages?(this will be great
for Adds and also for spammers).

Yes, insert it in the same manner you would insert the HTML code. When you
compose the email simply compose it in Source Mode by view>source edit... Or
the like but it's under view in rich text format...
You'll make a lot of people mad though...

You can embed it in an HTML email (ask in one of the stationery NGs on the
msnews.microsoft.com newsserver as to how), but linking it to a website is a
lot easier.

Well , i have tried that, also linked it in the "embed source" to the file
in my web site....(using http://www.mysite.com/file.html). The e-mail comes
but the movie is not loaded(right clicking the movie, flash player says:
"movie not loaded").
What is wrong with that?

Also..... I tried that by copying HTML codes from Dream Weaver into e-mail
source.....Bingo!
It works...but the problem is that it works only for Hotmail e-mails... I
checked some Yahoo accounts, but the movie was not loaded...
What should I do?
Your help is much regarded

It's possible, but because the default security settings for OE disable the
display of ActiveX controls, it's a waste of time, because most of the
people receiving the mails won't be able to see them.

What about hotmail accounts?

Yahoo may block it. I'm not sure.

What about them? If you read your hotmail account at www.hotmail.com, then
you're accessing the mail in a browser, and browser rules apply, so ActiveX
controls will work by default, and if you access your hotmail in OE, then
OE rules apply, and ActiveX controls are disabled by default. (There are
good reasons for this).

I don't have a Yahoo account, but I presume the Yahoo mail engine strips
the ActiveX code from the mail before displaying it, for security reasons.
Just view the source of the web page, and see what yahoo is displaying.

If Yahoo Companion is installed, uninstall it.
Check for needed updates at Windows Update.
