View Full Version : Cannot ping out to any other host

I have one XPSP2 workstation that is connected to an SBS 2003 server on a
separate network from all other workstations. The workstation IP is
10.0.0.8, the NIC in the server is set at 10.0.0.9. I can remotely control
the workstation, ping its IP from the server, etc. From the workstation I
cannot initiate a connection to anything. Ping times out. IE will not
connect, etc.

This happened after I installed a new AV app. I have disabled the app,
stopped the services, rebooted, restored the system to a previous point, etc.
I think I am just looking at all of the wrong things. I would appreciate
any thoughts.

thanks!

Regarding the AV app, try totally uninstalling it, not just disabling
it.

In cases like this, sometimes LSPFix or WinsockXPFix can repair the
damage

Thanks John, I will try the removal suggestion. Lspfix showed no problems.
Winsockxpfix was a little scary. It would not save the registry and I did
not try to apply the fix after that.

Just more info, I can use windows explorer to move files off of and onto the
the machine with the problem. I can also backup from another system to the
disk in the problem machine.
