annoying messages

They are advertisements that pop up on my computer. They
are different than normal pop up ads. They are grey
rectangular boxes with messages in them. There is an "ok"
box in the midle to click on if you want to get more info.
They are very annoying. Sometimes I wake up in the morning
to find dozens of them. Someone told me they could be
disabled. Please help!!!
