security updates

I play games in which I or someone connects to my
computer through our IP address, my question is has an
update been released lately that would prohibit me from
playing games this way, the reason I think its an update
issue is because at one time I was able to play games
this way but now I can't connect to them or them to me
using IP address. Other players are not experiencing this
problem so I know its an issue with my computer. Once
again is this a security update causing me this problem,
like an idiot I generally update any thing that deals
with security and may have caused this problem. Thank you
