View Full Version : encryption - opening previosly encrypted

I have data files of my xp machine more than 8 formats
back... the files are encrypted and i am unable to
unencryt them or opn then.... how do i get to open my
old data.. no keys were backed up and altough same
machine, will not let me (even if i login as supervisor)
please help...

If you did not export the relevant keys and do not have a full backup of the
previous profile that encrypted the files then those files are effectively
lost to you.
EFS is very good at what it does ad should not be used without reading all
of the documentation and following all of the recommended procedures
(especially exporting your keys and also the use of a recovery agent and
it's keys)
