System windows just pop open then close

I'm running Windows XP Pro and I can't get some system
windows to stay open. For example, when i hit "Ctrl -
Alt - Del" the system status windows opens then closes
right away. Also, regedit just opens then closes.
HELP!!

Have you run a virus scan of late?

Most likely your machine is infected with a virus.
There are several that will prevent those utilities from running.
(NAV does not detect most of these so a scan is useless.)
Try re-nameing msconfig.exe, regedit.exe & tskmgr.exe
to msconfig.com, regedit.com & tskmgr.com.
If you can run them now, then it's almost a sure thing your infected.
Look for any strange entries, like .scr files loading at startup.

Check [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\Curr entVersion\Run] for
an entry like "Winsock2 driver"="WINCFG.SCR" or similier

Like I said in the previouse post, that does not mean anything.
Most of the new ones are not yet detected accurately by the major antivirus
vendors.
