I was wondering if Windows XP had it's own virus
protection program built in. If so, how do I make sure
it is working?

Megan;
No;
You need to get a 3rd party antivirus application.
Most computers come with an anti virus application installed.

XP does not have built in antivirus protection software of its own, sorry.
If you have recently purchased a new computer with XP on it, however, the
computer manufacturer may have chose to include antivirus software as part
of the "package" you purchased. Obviously whether they did so or not, and
how it works if they did would be a question for their support department.
