Windows Update Inop

Hi there, I have winxp home, been using the update site to
keep my system up to speed for a year, however, now when I
get to the site and go through the scan system for updates
it tells me that there are no current updates available,
just prior to this I was having problems with some of the
securuty updates failing the download.

Does the update service stop after a year or have I mabey
disabled something...
plz help
