Here's the deal. I'm on diability and dont have a lot. I
enjoy tinkering with the computers I have and sometimes
things go bad, hard drives crash, I mess up (Im not the
brightest potato in the happy meal). Reformat, reinstall.
Now I see my license has expired. I didnt know I could
install it too many times. I want to rebuild my second
computer (The Everquest one) is there any way I can
recharge my license CHEAPLY (As in FREE??) I'm an honest
man, I don't believe in stealing, this is just for me and
my two computers. A little help here? Thansk in advance

XP license is for ONE PC only. You can buy an additional license from M$,
but it's not much cheaper. You are out of luck , no LEGAL way around it.
I cannot afford another copy either, so my laptop still has w98se on it.
That's life in the big city.

Good grief. It isn't like it's $500 after all. An OEM copy of the full
version of WinXP Pro can be purchased from GoogleGear for $142. XP Home is
just $92.50. How much cheaper could it be? In terms of aggregate of
functionality, Microsoft operating systems are cheaper with every new
version. XP is the cheapest yet.

Greetings --

You can re-install and re-activate WinXP on the same PC an
unlimited number of times, until you wear out either the hard drive or
the CD. If it's been more than 120 days since you last activated that
specific Product Key, you'll most likely be able to activate via the
Internet without problem. If it's been less, you'll have to make a 5
minute phone call.

Here are the facts pertaining to activation:

$142 may not be nuch to you. But, to those of us on Disability, it's a
hell of a lot. I only get enough to pay my friggen rent and buy food for
***MOST** of the month. If it weren't for my family, I'd starve the last
few days each month. So, until you have to deal with Disability.....SHUT
UP!!!

This may be true, but you are demanding that Microsoft be required either by
law or by moral imperative to provide you with a free (or almost free) copy
of their latest product. Windows95, however, can still be obtained for next
to nothing--sometimes absolutely nothing. Almost everyone that has been
using computers for more than a couple years has throwaway copies of
Windows95 and 98. This being the case, there is no basis for your demanding
that you should simply be given the latest version. Before my present
circumstances, I spent many years in poverty and had to make compromises
like this all of the time. I had to buy used cars because I could not
afford the latest and greatest on the new car lots. I did not demand that
the new car lot sell me a car for the price of the cars on their used lot.

No doubt you could function without Windows XP. You simply demand that
Microsoft provide you their latest product for the price that their older
products can now be obtained. This is unreasonable, and you have no right
to do so no matter your condition or economic situation.

My comment was about your assunption that $142 isn't much money, Not
abou the cost of XP. I gree that if it's too much for, don't get it. The
OP stated that he was on disability and your post is slap in the face
that reminds us that we can't afford many things solely because we were
unfortunate and got injured or became ill. Something that is beyond our
control.

I was simply challenging his argument that he is somehow entitled to have
the latest and greatest at little or no cost just because he cannot afford
it.
