System Restor

Problem Description: My system restor has been shut down from group policy I
am trying to re-start it. I followed the following directions but can not
find the group policy. ????

1. To start Group Policy Management console
To open Group Policy Management, click Start, click Control Panel, click
Administrative Tools, and then click Group Policy Management.

2. How to Start the Group Policy Editor
To start the group policy editor, follow these steps.
Click Start, and then click Run.
In the Open box, type mmc, and then click OK.
On the File menu, click Add/Remove Snap-in.
Click Add.
Under Available Stand-alone Snap-ins, click Group Policy, and then click Add.
Operating System: Windows XP

I follwed both directions can not find group policy.. help

when i click on system restor a window opens stating that is has been turned
off by group policy and to contact the administrator to turn it back on. Note
I am the administrator. ???

I suspect that you are seeing the effects of a hijackware infection, not a
Group Policy!

NB: If you had no anti-virus application installed or the subscription had
expired *when the machine first got infected* and/or your subscription has
since expired and/or the machine's not been kept fully-patched at Windows
Update, don't waste your time with any of the below: Format & reinstall
Windows. A Repair Install will NOT help!

1. See if you can download/run the MSRT manually:
http://www.microsoft.com/security/malwareremove/default.mspx

NB: Run the FULL scan, not the QUICK scan! You may need to download the
MSRT on a non-infected machine, then transfer MRT.EXE to the infected
machine and rename it to SCAN.EXE before running it.

2. [WinXP ONLY!! =>] Run the Windows Live Safety Center's 'Protection' scan
(only!) in Safe Mode with Networking, if need be:

3. Run a /thorough/ check for hijackware, including posting the requested
