Windows XP SP3, IE7 & OE6, with latest MS updates. AVG Anti Virus, Zone
Alarm Pro & Counter Spy V3.

I the past month to six weeks the download speed with my IE has become
painfully slow and when writing to web pages sometime there is a delay
between writing and the text appearing on the page. OE appears to download
e-mails at normal speed.

In the past I have noted that some of MS updates have caused similar
problems, can I look to any of MS recent updates to resolve my current
problem?

Hi Laura
Try Running Internet Explorer without Add-ons
Start> All Programs> Accessories> System Tools>Internet Explorer (No
Add-ons)
If this speeds you up then you have a problem with your addons.

Your problem is more like a result of both AVG and Counter Spy
"inspecting" teh Internet activity. AVG 8.5 also include spyware
protection that might cause interference with Counter Spy.

Hi chas2209,
Thanks, you were correct the add-ons causing the problem were added by Skype
with their update to version 4.1.0.136 - see

Hi Chas 2209,
Your information was correct. The offending IE Add-ons were from Skype .
On the Skype webpage
http://share.skype.com/sites/devzone/2007/06/the_skype_addin_for_internet_e_1.html,
they admit that Microsoft have informed Skype that their most recent upgrade
(version 4.1) is affecting IE. Unfortunately Skype have not removed the
defective software from their Up-grade download page and Skype users are
still downloading the offending upgrade.
