View Full Version : return from standby - private email displayed

Hello

I have a shared computer I use for email and messenger etc. When it is in
Standby mode, and I return from standby, my email address shows plus the
number of unread messages I have. First off, I have no unread messages, so
I'm not sure why it says I do, but worse, it displays my email address for
anyone to see and it is a private email address I use. How do I remove it
from, and in future stop it from, being displayed when returning from standby?

I appreciate any help with this you can offer.

With thanks,

Download Tweakui (for Windows XP) and look under logon. There is a screen
you can stop that from happening.

Not sure about Vista.

Compliments of Kelly:

Use TweakUI/Logon/Unread Mail and Repair/Unread Mail Count
http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/pro/downloads/powertoys.asp

Disable Unread Mail on the Welcome Screen (Line 100)
http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/xp_tweaks.htm

To remove an account or to change the count manually:

Start>Run>Regedit>navigate to this key:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Curre ntVersion\UnreadMail\[Your
E-Mail Address]. In the right pane modify: Message Count, Change it to 0.

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Curre ntVersion\UnreadMail. In
the right pane modify: MessageExpiryDays Change it to 0.
