When trying to give CREATOR OWNER full control in
Registry Editor (regedit.exe), the X's I put in the boxes
disappear as soon as I hit APPLY or OK. What can I do so
the X's in Full Control in CREATOR OWNER stay there so I
can properly install my HP psc 1210 printer?

I am guessing that it is there, but that it is set
to apply to "Subkeys only" (which of course
makes perfect sense for Creator Owner).
To see this, click the Advanced button, and
you will see a not-inherited grant for Full
for Creator Owner that applies to Subkeys only.
You are not being given that junk "workaround"
from HP to change permissions on the entire
HKey Local Machine registry hive are you ?
If so, don't. Take the printer back if they cannot
give a better fix to thier poor install software.
