View Full Version : How to stop hovering mouse from activating focus?

When I'm navigating in Windows Explorer (in Details View) I find that whenever the mouse pointer happens to hover over a file or
folder the focus goes to that file or folder. Is there any way of stopping this? The best solution would be a keyboard shortcut but
if it was off most of the time it would probably be best as I navigate with the keyboard. I have the Snap To feature activated in
the Control Panel, Mouse settings, and realize that it often repositions the mouse pointer in less than optimum places at times. I
need to keep the Snap To feature activated though - guess I'm quite attached to that handy little thing. Or a keyboard shortcut
that would make the mouse disappear might work too.

You probably have what's called x-windows behavior turned on. It
highlights what you put your mouse over, and then a single-click will
start a program, open the window, etc.?

In Windows Explorer (not Internet Explorer), click Tools; Folder
Options. In the General tab there should be a "Single Click to Open an
Item". Untick it. OK out, and try it.

But I want a single click to open stuff. There's no way I'm going to double my clicking - that results in wasted energy. But I do
have Tweak UI. So I went into that and changed the Hover setting to the maximum (all 9's) and it seems to work. I timed it and it
lasts about 1 minute and 40 seconds. More than good enough for keyboard navigation. Unless I fall asleep of course. :)

Thank you Twayne!!! This single-click was really getting irritating... Thanks
for your advice, the mouse works absolutely fine now. :)
