folder opens on start up

Whem my compter starts a folder called Microsoft opens and inside this folder
are 2 sub folders Office Live & Search Enhancement Pack. How can I stop this
folder from opening at start up.

It has only started in the last 2 months

In many cases this is due to a startup call that uses a path that isn't
bound in quotation marks. Windows uses Long File Names that
include spaces. In some cases the parser decodes the path name
until it reaches the 1st space. So instead of a complete path only
a partial path is used and XP doesn't actually load/run the app. It
only opens an Explorer window of the partial path name.

You can use a program called AutoRuns to locate the call. It's a
Microsoft supplied tool for examining a computer's startup.

I have had a look at the registry and start up programs and see any thing
pointing to a Microsoft folder for start up

You'll need to use Explorer and locate the "Parent" or upper level
folder that contains Office Live and Search.... It's this folder path
that is being opened. It will take the form of
C:\Program Files\_______\ (Office Live + Search sub-folders)
The underscored path above is where the fractured path is coming
from. You use that path with AutoRuns looking for the match in the
column heading "Image Path":
