Hello,
My husband has been trying to download stuff from Kazaa,
and I know it's causing some issues with virii and such.
("Disallowing" this hobby is not an option, as this is
*very* important to him.) We did a virus scan and found
a relatively harmless one (used McAfee's FreeScan). But
we're having a recurring problem with one that's trying
persistantly to start mIRC with a user ID and such that
didn't even show up on the scan. While I've wanted to
find an IRC client, I'm not about to log in for someone
else! (I suspect they're trying to get me to "send" them
files....)
I've tried searching for mIRC in all system and hidden
folders, and searched regedit for it, deleting all files
that came up in that folder. Our ISP doesn't support
XP's firewall, but I downloaded the Sygate Personal
firewall and that seems to be working ok. (In all other
respects, this ISP seems to be working well -- we always
connect at 50.6k dial-up, have only gotten kicked off 3
times over an average 12 hours a day for a month, and
only pay $8.95 a month for unlimited access.) Any other
ideas for removing this hitchhicker in our system?
(I still need to reinstall XP from the previous issue --
I just haven't gotten a chance or motivation to do so...)
Thanks!
