First, thank you for taking the time to offer advice and
help, I do appreciate it. However, that was not the
solution I need.

As for the power management (and MMC, and registry), I
already had it set to not go into standby on its own, and
the User rights to adjust the settings disabled. That is
not what I am trying to do.

**I am trying to physically remove the 'stand by' choice
from the shutdown menu.**

Basically, I need to be able to go 'Start - Shut Down',
then at the 'Shut Down Windows' dialogue box, I want it to
only say 'shut down' and 'restart' in the drop-down menu.
I already killed 'log off' and 'hibernate', but the 'stand
by' option persists.

Try it, it is not as easy as you would think. I can't seem
to force the option to go away no matter what the setings.

again, thanks in advance...

I'd be very keep to know the answer as well. I guess the simple truth is
that there isn't one.

I've thought of disabling ACPI in the BIOS, but I haven't tried it and
anyway we then get irritated users who have to manually turn off their
computers, plus bigger power bills.

I'd be quite happy to have the entire "Shut down" option removed from the
start menu. The Novell GINA is perfect - no Stand by option!

There's always an way...if it was made from code, it can
be un-made/modified...it's just beyond my current scope of
knowledge. I can't believe they thought to give you
options to restrict who can undock a pc (and even more
obscure options), shutdown, or even logoff a machine in
the Group Policy, but they didn't think to add this in
somewhere. Very frustrating.

A thought did occur to me last night while I was busy
thinking over this instead of sleeping (heh)...is there a
way (there HAS to be) of changing/adding a script to
the 'Start - Shut Down' button that would call the
nwgina 'shut down' box instead of the MS one? The box you
get after 'Ctrl-Alt-Del - shut down' would be perfect. I
wonder if there is a way to simply find and copy the part
of the code that calls the Novell shutdown options box
from the 'Ctrl-Alt-Del - shut down' and make the 'Start -
Shut Down' button use the same command/scripts/call
(whatever it is)? I would be a very happy man if I could
figure that one out...preferably in the next 8 hours, as I
have a deadline from above to have this model ready for
ghosting Monday morning.

Ideas?

Thanks again all...
