I had a problem with my laptop a few months back, and after replacing the HD
(which didn't fix the problem) I ended up having to replace my MB. Since
then, I've been limping along on Windows XP restored from my system restore
disk. The computer originally came with Windows Media Center installed (most
likely the version before 2005, but I don't remember for sure). Anyway, I do
not have (nor do I think I ever did have) the "disk 2" that system restore
asked me to insert; therefore, Windows is running, but I don't have any of
the Media Center functionality. I can't watch DVDs, can't load up Media
Center video codecs (it tells me I don't have the right OS), nor can I put
anything past version 9 of Windows Media Player on board.

Does anyone have any ideas, other than going on E-bay and purchasing a
Windows Media Center CD?

Have you reinstalled all the WinXP Updates including SP2 and SP3?
