I have a seven year old computer which is currently running Windows
XP Pro I want to wipe it and put Win 98 on it so that some of the older
children's CD's will run on it.
I have a legal Win 98se CD but unfortunately I do not have the key
or start-up disk! What would be the best way to remove everything that
is currently on the computer and install Win 98se?
If I could get some advice or someone could point me to a web page
that will provide the information I would be very grateful.

With a microsoft retail copy of 98se,you dont need any other cds to
install the OS.Set the BIOS to boot to cdrom with 98 cd installed, use
the FDisk tool to wipe out xp,see kb255867.

Since everything in your question is about Win98, a Win9x newsgroup would be
the best place to post it.

You need the Product Key in order to install/run Win98SE. However, if you
were able to obtain a PK and install Win98SE, you may still have issues with
any components/hardware that aren't compatible Win98SE.

Have you tried installing/running the "older children's CD's" in
compatibility mode on the XP machine?
Right click the executable file (.exe) that you want to run.
Click Properties in the popup menu.
Click the Compatility tab.
Click the check box under Compatibility Mode labeled "Run this program in
compatibility mode:" to enable the OS selection drop down list.
Click the dropdown list to see the OS selection choices.
Click on the OS that you want to run the program in compatibilty mode for.
Select any display/input settings only if needed.
Click Apply > Ok.

Attempt to run the application/program.
