I can't change my screens resolution...i'm not trying to
play a game or anything, but i can only set my computer
to 800 x 600 with an 8 color (low-bit) resolution....how
do i fix that?

Make sure you have the latest video card drivers installed from the
manufacturer of your card.

How do i check that? i haven't messed with the video
card since i got the computer (this past december)

Right click on "My Computer" choose properties goto Hardware Tab and choose
the "Device Manager" goto the Display Adapters and doubel click on your
card, then goto the Drivers tab and it will tell you what version driver you
have.
