Save copy, install SP2-3

I installed an old XP with no SP from a CD. All Firewalls seem to need an
SP, so how can I get an SP on my new OS?

I have tested SP2+3 saved down for Networks from Msoft, SP 2 result its not
a valid win 32 program, SP3= you need at least SP1.

All I can think of is to find an old disc with an old firewall, but I guess
it cant be updated.

Its a very old copy, but original is from Msoft, we always make
safety-copies in our family.

Please provide complete information.

Is this a Retail, generic OEM, or branded OEM (e.g., Dell, etc.) version
of XP?

Is it XP Home or XP Pro?

Make sure you install all the hardware drivers!

Assuming you have access to another PC, I would download the SP2 and SP3
installation files (links below) and copy them to either a CD or an
external hard drive. Make sure that your PC that has the fresh install
of XP Gold (no Service Pack level) is not online! Insert the CD or
connect the external hard drive. Install SP2 first (which automatically
enables Windows Firewall -- which is all you really need -- by the way),
and then SP3.

Its XP Pro and not OEM.
Took down PS2 with an XP, also PS2 Deploy tools. After pasting, it opened
and started installing, but stopped all at Registerkeys update. Defect
register?
Consumed 1 Gb space so far, will it be checked and not doubled if I restart
and try again?

Anton,

You need to download SP2 again because it looks like your original has been
corrupted. This happens occasionally if you use IE7 to download any big files
(i.e. grater than 60 mb).

I am surprised you don't have any firewall because the original XP did have a
Windows firewall though it wasn't good enough. SP1 improved on it and this is
also incorporated in SP2.

If you can't download SP2 for any reasons then your only option is to
slipstream SP3 before installing the operating system from scratch. This means
you start all over again -wiping the HD, losing the data, wasting more time etc
etc.

I'm sorry, Anton, but other than the fact that you used a "Gold" version
of XP Pro (Retail), I'm afraid I don't understand anything else you
said!

I began to suspect smth like that with different results of downloads. I
also got Avast and Firefox, any better?

I looked for a wall to turn on, found windows oxo only checking, where is
any wall?

Got a wall as cant be opened, but in taskmgr this was found: FWservice.exe,
indicates a wall is on.
I will reinstall several XP and like to learn a smarter way to get SP than
do an update without a wall.
I'll start with another browser first and test it, cause now is a need to
save an old partition.
