transparent proxy?

can anyone tell me what a transparent proxe is for?

i got it on my laptop and with it is the only way i can
connect to the internet but i still can't access yahoo or
msn messanger. im on btopenworld anytime which isn't
suppost to have a proxy. i had to make a new connection
so now i need it to get online?
