View Full Version : Windows XP won't boot

Dear anyone that can help,

I have a Toshiba Satellite A100 laptop which is driving me nuts! I recently
was doing a clean up of the hard drive, but when I restarted the computer it
won't boot.

It keeps getting stuck on the Windows XP logo, and only gives me the options
of pressing F2 and F12 and goes back to the XP logo keeps alternating from
one to the other and doesn't go any further.

It wont even start in safe mode which would be easy to get into the MS DOS
window to fix the problem.

If anybody can help I would gladly appreciate it!

Try leaving it longer than 10 minutes to get an answer .

what you need to do is to find
a xp cd and boot with it as it
sounds like your only option.

with a xp cd you have other
options.

so let us know if and when you
ascertain the cd for further
guidance.

It looks like you made this identical post ten minuted ago, using a
different name. Please don't do that; it only causes confusion.
Furthermore, please understand that Usenet newsgroups are not like chat.
It can take up to several hours to start getting pertinent replies.

What specifically did you do to "clean up" your laptop? Was there
something wrong with it before the attempted cleanup? Or did the problem
occur only afterwards?

Please be as specific as you can in your reply. Hopefully, you will
leave us an important clue as to what you did, so that we may be able to
come up with a quick answer.

Just curious as to which Registry Cleaner did you use when you did your clean up of
your Hard Drive.

Anyway see the following and do not use any more any Registry Cleaning tools. They
are all snake oil remedies and now you have found out the hard way

See the following and follow the instructions to the letter

My neighbor's Toshiba A105 started doing the same thing this week. I had to
do a fresh install of XP using the Toshiba-supplied XP recovery disk.
Getting rid of all the Toshiba-supplied crapware took longer than the 55
minutes the Toshiba countdown timer showed for installing XP.

I have been using several Reg Cleaners/Compactors for about 10
years and not a single one has ever caused a single problem.

The bottom line is always the OPERATOR.

If used as a tool and manually checked entry-by-entry, I could see saying,
"Go for it"; however, the majority of users will not do that and they don't
have the skills necessary to make such a decision otherwise - so they go
fully automatic. Combine that wqith the fact most have no backups, no
disk/drive images and no clue how to do any of that because the machine
should 'just work' - dangerous.

I actually think you raise a valid point, Thanatoid.

However, most operators aren't as sophisticated as you. If you search
the XP groups' archives, you will find many instances of damage done by
operators using registry cleaners or optimizers. Often what winds up
happening is the program they use (and yes, *how* they use it) winds up
causing a situation where theire PC's become unbootable. Of course, if
they had up-to-date images of their hard drives, all they would need to
do is restore these images. But since they are not sophisticated, they
can't exercise this relatively easy and quick corrective option.

In an OS like Windows 98, it made sense to maintain the registry. With
systems like XP and later, seemingly countless orphan entries in the
registry interestingly cause no appreciable difference in performance.
This is why so many experienced people caution against the use of these
programs. There is no noticeable benefit *and* there is a small chance
that significant damage may occur.

My guts just splurted out on the floor from laughing at this
brilliant simile.

Good answer.
(And it doesn't take 11 years, for anyone who has extensively messed with
them).

Please do not give thanatoid any ideas like that!

PS:Of course, thanatoid most likely has already considered that.

He thinks about it all the time, but since he can't get a gun
and does not have either any friends to play RR with or the time
to wait for the gun to go off when it's pointed at HIS head, he
has a hanging device ready to go for when the moment comes. The
sooner the better, he might add.

No problem, I'm trying to learn to ignore these things. The
lower case is the only thing I really care about, especially
when people start arguing about it being valid or not.
