View Full Version : Some files corrupt on transfer

December 28th 09, 05:45 AM
Sometimes I move files and they won't open on another machine.

THis has happened with files from unix of from DOS.

THen I recopy the file and it opens fine.

I have a hunch I copied the file too fast somehow.

I am not aware of any way of controlling the speed of the copy
process (except in some sophisticated file managers - WE is NOT
a file manager - and even then the control is very limited).

I have had the exact thing happen, and it is usually bad media -
usually floppy. I have had no problems with CDR's and HD (well,
except they all fail sooner or later).

I would suspect one or the other or both media involved, be they
CD, floppy, HD, or whatever. Run scandisk on them first.
Sometimes reformatting will fix the problem - although it is
really only practical in case of a floppy, and a floppy (or
other media) that had bad sectors WILL get them again...
